COURSE DESCRIPTION<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Noble International University’s Intensive English course builds on students\u2019 previous education and language knowledge to introduce the English language and help students adjust to their new cultural environment. The course is designed to expand students\u2019 abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing for essential academic purposes. The students will develop necessary knowledge and skills through participating in activities that develop spoken and written English for a variety of purposes. They will be engaged in social interaction, reading and responding to short passages from fiction and non-fiction texts designed and adapted for intermediate learners of English. They will be working on a variety of forms and demonstrate an understanding of knowledge of and adaptation to Canadian Society through oral interaction.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The course has been divided into two sublevels with the instruction time of 125 hours each:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Intensive English\u00a0<\/span>Level Two A<\/i><\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(low intermediate level, 5 weeks)<\/span><\/p>\n

Intensive English\u00a0<\/span>Level Two B<\/i><\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(high intermediate level, 5 weeks).<\/span><\/p>\n

Each of these levels consists of\u00a0<\/span>five-week periods<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and four components having equal weight in the Intensive English course and focusing on four language dimensions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNorth Star\u201d component<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>(62.5 hours)<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>consists of 10 thematic units that are organized in separate listening and speaking, and reading and writing parts. Each unit includes focused integrated skill practice to develop critical thinking and communicative competence which links the students to language outside of the classroom and encourages personal expression and critical thinking.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFocus on Grammar\u201d component<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(62.5 hours)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>helps the students to understand and practice English grammar to gain confidence in their ability to speak and write English accurately and fluently. Each unit presents a balanced approach with a variety of activities so that students of all different learning styles can benefit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cReady to Write\u201d component<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(62.5 hours)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>uses many ways to teach writing to English-language learners. In addition, each chapter includes a section on the mechanics of writing.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Reading component<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(62.5 hours)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>helps the students develop key reading strategies for decoding and comprehension of written texts through reading through reading outstanding short stories by American authors and a novel\u00a0<\/span>Detective Work.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>Focus will be on literature, improving reading, understanding literary elements, vocabulary, and developing greater individual and group communication skills.<\/span><\/p>\n
